Hi

I'm a new PPL, now training for my IMC as well as building more confidence with more complex VFR flying. I've found FSX, properly setup and with the right add-ons and kit, to be an excellent training aid in many ways.

I've been able to use the Windows version of Skydemon to connect to the FSX GPS output and that's good. However SkyDemon Plan is quite limited compared to the IPad version, and it would be amazing to be able to connect that to FSX. I realise it may not be an easy or popular request, but it would be massively helpful for me and I reckon it would also be great for Skydemon to use in things like demo's and training sessions.

Also you might also open up a new market to simmers doing this. People spend many hundreds on FSX add-ons - YouTube is full of examples. The cost of a Skydemon subscription would be relatively small to some of the serious guys who want it 'as real as it gets'.

If this was even technically feasible, would you consider adding it as a feature? I'm thinking there must be a way, although I manage software developers rather than being one, so people get sick of me saying things like that and then expecting them to figure it out! :-). I'd be happy to research it further on the technical side though if it helps any?

Cheers,

Ian

There are already a couple of threads on this subject - and I think momentum is growing for this, already a number of Skydemon's peers has this function and is proving very popular.

It has my full support.

Forgot to add, that AirNavPro on the iPad takes a feed directly from FSX AND Xplane with no real issues - it's as easy as plug in the lead, select IPad on the GPS out interfaces and it's done; so there must be a way a doing this for Skydemon - IMHO :-)

Same request here, even if I'm on x-plane!
And I don't believe that pilots who fly in simulators are a small minority... why not keeping your skills sharp when you can't fly for real?
And one should be able to do on the same tools (read: SD).

I love SD and I'd hate to switch to a different software, but if they don't do anything for connecting to xplane on the iPad I'm not renewing the subscription next year.

I'm currently using a dual PC configuration with virtual serial ports over IP... while my iPad and Nexus 7 (android) are gathering dust screaming to be used with x-plane, this shouldn't be so painful!

As written in the post above other navigation programs are doing this already, it's about getting a bunch of NMEA strings from a different source, shouldn't take enormous resources to implement.

It would be cool!

http://fsxflight.com/ connects to Foreflight and WingX over WiFi. Maybe it wouldn't be too hard for SkyDemon to talk to it too?

By way of an update, according to Jacob the author of FSXFlight, his software broadcasts the GPS position over the LAN as per this protocol:

http://www.foreflight.com/support/network-gps

If the same thing could be implemented by Skydemon it would work out of the box with FSXFlight and with no add-ons needed at all for Xplane.
Jacob indicated he'd be advise further if this was a feature Skydemon is interested in pursuing, but I can't imagine how much effort is involved in doing this.

Cheers,

Ian

A potential solution for this has been posted here: http://www.skydemon.aero/forums/Topic8081.aspx
